Doug Walker The Mystery

You may or may not know that Manchester-based Walker’s debut single was championed by BBC Radio 1’s Chris Moyles after Walker ambushed him as he arrived for work. Following an initial airing of the single, the radio station were inundated with requests for replays. Walker was subsequently scooped up by Warner and has an album on the way.

Initially coming at you like the would be nightmare of a Fat Les comeback single, after around 10 seconds of discomfort created by an introduction that that consists of a lot of euphoric clapping and the words 'La’ and 'La’, this settles into a perfectly adequate anthemic pop song. It isn’t the most exciting thing I have ever heard, but its immediately striking use of the words 'La’ and 'La’ are oddly endearing, will doubtlessly appeal to the masses and in fairness give way to a pretty nice lyric about 'childish notion’.

Having walked straight down 'instant street’, I fear that our mate Doug will have to have worked hard to maintain the momentum of this single across a whole album, but time will tell. Watch this space.
